Federal government implements Kamloops Chamber policy

The Kamloops Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that another of their positions has been implemented by the federal government.

The Kamloops Chamber of Commerce has been working on a series of pension reform policies and is slowly introducing them to government on an annual basis.  In 2007, the Kamloops Chamber submitted a position paper to the Canadian Chamber, expressing the need for employees under 65 to collect CPP, even though they continue to remain employed.  That position was voted upon and accepted by all the member chambers from across the country.

In the past, employees who wished to continue working past the age of 60 had to quit their jobs before they could collect from the Canada Pension Plan (CPP).  Kamloops Chamber’s position proposed that those employees be allowed to remain employed and collect CPP.

Changes to the CPP will continue to be introduced until 2016. However, many have come into effect on January 1, 2012, including Kamloops’ policy.
